A trip to Jowhar!!!!

Bored of the mainstream places for your holidays around Mumbai then let's head off to a little outskirts of town and discover Jowhar. It is a city and a municipal council in Palghar district of Maharashtra state in Konkan division.

How to reach there: It is about 80 km from Nasik and about 145 km from Mumbai by road.

Nearest railhead is Igatpuri, 61 kms. on Central Railway but Nashik is a more convenient railhead. On Western Railway, nearest railhead is Dahanu, 65 kms.

Jowhar is also known as the Mahableshwar of Palghar district, located at an altitude of 518meters.

Attractions at Jowhar are:

1. Kalmandvi Waterfall:

Unlike other waterfalls which are active only in monsoons, this waterfall is seen throughout the year. It is 100meters in height with crystal clear, cool water best for enjoying with family, trekking and rock climbing adventure.

2. Hanuman Point:

This is a beautiful point which gets its name from the small temple of hanuman located at a distance of 2 km from east and which is surrounded by cactus trees. Therefore, people named it as Katya Maruti Mandir. It is situated into the valley which is 500m deep and so one has to enjoy the beautiful view from the top as the sunrise from the back hills in the morning catches everyone's eyes.

3. Sunset Point ÷

Nearly 0.5 km away towords west from the heart of the city is the heritage of lovers called Sunset point .The Shape of the vallay is like a Bow and therefore it was earlier known as Dhanukamal. The sunsetting from this point is beyond words as the rays of the sun descends like a blanket covering the valley.

4. Dabosa Water Fall:

Located at 18kms from Jowhar, this waterfall is on Lendi River at a height of 300meters. The water of this falls first comes in flask shaped rock & again from there it comes in 5 feet ×5feet flask shaped open natural container. The sight of this waterfall is rare and a treat to nature lovers. The main thing about this place is that it is covered with medicinal plants and so known as Vanaushadhi.

5. Jaivilas Palace÷

The palace was built by Raja Yashwant Rao Maukne.The stone used for its construction was brought from a place called as Kalidhond which is 5 km away from its location.It was said that the work of this palace was completed and soon the quarry of stone was dumped and now from the geological department of India, a survey was done to find out the quarry . The palace is a master piece of pink stone and a heritage for the local people. There is a beatiful garden surrounding the palace having plants of Kaju everywhere.
