Whenever we think about North East regions of India, we usually imagine hilly areas, tea plantations, short heighted small eyes folk ,noodles and momos!!!!
A picture of Buddha drapped in red clothing performing his rituals or beautiful women plucking tea leaves from plants with half covered head or little girls doing bamboo dance crosses our mind instantly. Moreover, if someone talks about Laddakh, I always imagine bike rides and the famous '3 idiots' movie scene . When sheer imagination of this place gives goosebumps then how about actually visiting Laddakh??
Confused about where to head knowing nothing about this place then just click that movie scene in your mind and get started off to Pangong Tso Lake !!!
How to reach÷ Get to Leh through your transport and then from there follow your GPS to the five hour ride mostly off road with natural scenes as expected along your way. The road looks more dramatic and adventurous as you pass the small beautiful villages and traverse across the Changla pass where you would find many military sentries and teahouses. Further to add on more thrill, you'll have to cross the 'Pagal Nala' river known as the Crazy stream to reach your destination. The road looks so similar to other roads that you will find it confusing and unending. Whenever you will think you're going to reach, it will trick you as a Mirage and that's the fun all about.
The Pangong lake is an endorheic lake in the Himalayas situated at a height of about 4,350 m. It is 134 km long and extends from India to China. Approximately 60% of the length of the lake lies in China.
As you come across the shores of the lake, the scenery will take your breath away and the atmosphere will provide the serenity to your soul which you longed for years. You'll notice the crystal clear water kissing the shores of whitish unadulterated sand backed by vast range of mountains standing firm and the reflection of the blue sky highlighting the sea.
As the water of the sea is said to be saltier than most of the sea waters, there are no aquatic animals found but some amount of aquatic vegetation are seen. Due to which large numbers of migratory birds can be encountered.
The atmosphere surrounding this lake is so tranquil that one would want to leave everything and sit on the shores doing nothing and admiring the paradise in front of their eyes. If you're at this Lake in Summer, then the Bar-headed goose and Brahmini ducks are mostly seen which are just impossible to spot anywhere else.
During winters, this place is absolutely chilled with the mercury dipping to even 2 degrees and the lake freezes completely. So, the best time to visit this place is from May- October which is mainly open for tourists.
Camping at this Lake is like a travellers dream. The sight of silent shore with a number of birds chirping and the never ending sight of vast mountains takes us into a different world altogether. For some security reasons, boating is banned and permits are required to enter the area but if you're an Indian, you are permitted easily.
Summing up, this is the picture perfect adventure place which you see in movies and dreams which can be brought alive right in our country!!!
